Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Urge Congress to Pass Healthy School Meals Act

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have had a tremendous impact in spreading the message about health issues related to diet and nutrition. Host of the Emmy-winning The Ellen DeGeneres Show and judge on American Idol, Ellen uses her humorous and compassionate voice to raise awareness of health issues and environmental and animal welfare concerns.

Portia, who plays a particularly significant role in shining a spotlight on the powerful health benefits of a vegan diet, stars in ABC’s Better Off Ted and has appeared in Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Ally McBeal.

Now, they are asking Congress to fight childhood obesity and related chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and cancer, by passing the Healthy School Meals Act of 2010, H.R. 4870. In their letter to Congress, they ask lawmakers to support the bill that would help school food service programs serve more fruits, vegetables, and healthy plant-based vegetarian meal options.
